Why replace an old panel?
Your electrical panel is where every circuit in the building starts. Breakers are supposed to shut a circuit off when it’s overloaded or there’s a fault. An old or worn-out panel can overheat, trip all the time, or fail to trip when it should, and that last one is the dangerous part.
Federal Pacific panels
Federal Pacific Electric panels, often labeled with “Stab-Lok” breakers, were installed in many homes for decades. They’ve long been questioned by electricians and home inspectors because their breakers may not trip reliably. If you open your panel door and see the Federal Pacific name, it’s worth getting it looked at. We replace Federal Pacific panels with a new panel.
Fuse boxes
Some older homes in the area still run on screw-in fuses. Fuse boxes were built for a lot less electrical demand than a modern home uses, and a blown fuse is an easy thing to “fix” with the wrong size fuse. A new breaker panel is safer and much easier to live with.
Signs it may be time
- Breakers trip often, or a fuse blows when the AC or a big appliance kicks on
- The panel feels warm, buzzes, or shows scorch marks or rust
- You’re out of spaces for new circuits
- You’re adding an EV charger, a remodel or a big appliance
- A home inspector flagged the panel during a sale
